One Percent Collective lecture

One Percent Collective Lecture

Networking
The more you get involved with, more opportunities will arise.
Get in contact with people who inspire you/influence you. Ask them for advice. The worst that could happen is they say no.
Take advantage of opportunities and situations.

Test Ideas
Give people tasters, free stuff to test your ideas and products out - can generate interest or influence other people and inspire them.

Teaching v's learning
A lot of what you learn come from actually teaching it from somebody else.
Reinforces the skill
You don't have to be an expert to teach, the process of teaching itself is also a learning process.

Design Thinking
Brings new ideas/approaches to how other people might think

First Client Meeting

Notes from Client Meeting:

  • Target Budget:
Reasonably priced, open to smaller range at a higher cost -need to figure out target range first, glasses cases high cost
  • Ethics, Message:
"Clear vision delivered in style", first is quality and service, what they provide after, clear vision for customer then child, aim for the customer to want the glasses not just need them
  • What do you want to achieve?
More style, high quality, communicating the brand over developing it, more personality, want to be approachable -not so formal
  • Process:
Working with Kids Can, working with charities, go to schools -find out who needs glasses and provide them for free, they don't want to "choose" who gets glasses -they want the charities to choose
  • Keep the same:
Approachable, owners are greatly involved and care
  • What do you want?
Mobile testing units, public eye tests, information for parents and schools, measurements without seeing the client? progressive lenses, photography in recognizable places, want to design a compact-able case for glasses
  • How many glasses do you send at a time?
5 at a time per person
  • Advertising:
Within and outside Wellington, not too much print -small budget, interested in physical space advertising,
  • Materials:
Sustainable, mindful of materials, New Zealand based, reuseable
  • Extra Notes:
Want to keep brand within New Zealand at the moment, want to look into developing their social media presence, want to develop stories but be sensitive at the same time, NO pharmacies -not authentic, interested in glasses design
